Harlem Roots was created by Carolyn Johnson, founder of Welcome to Harlem a women & minority owned tour company since 2004 – it is one of Harlem's most celebrated cultural history tour companies and named the #6 Best History Tour in the United States by USA TODAY 10Best in 2026. Drawing on decades of experience bringing Harlem's history to life, Carolyn built Harlem Roots to ensure that future generations grow up knowing this story.
